Terms of Use

  • “We”, “us”, and “this site” refer to Lixen. Content authored by Lixen Wraith.
  • By accessing this website or the services it hosts, you agree to comply with these terms.
  • The content on this site is for informational purposes only and may change without notice.
  • You may not use this website or its services for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that could damage, disable, overload or impair them. That includes automated play, scraping and attempts to exhaust shared capacity such as multiplayer sessions.
  • Hosted services — the chess server and ViF multiplayer games — are provided as is, without uptime or data-retention guarantees, and may be changed, reset or withdrawn at any time.
  • The intellectual property rights for the projects showcased are subject to their respective licenses on GitHub.
  • “Lixen” and the Lixen logo designs are trademarks of Lixen in Canada. The project licenses cover the code, not these marks.
  • External links are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for third-party content.

Privacy Policy

The website

  • Reading the site needs no account and sets no cookies. There are no contact forms, analytics, advertising, third-party scripts, fonts or CDNs: every file is served from this server.
  • The site works without JavaScript, except the pages that say they need it (the chess clients, the ViF pages and the LogWisp Configure tab).
  • The LogWisp Configure tab also needs WebAssembly: it runs LogWisp’s engine in your browser, sends nothing you enter anywhere, and keeps nothing once you leave the page.
  • The browser stores your theme choice locally (localStorage); it is never sent to us.

Server logs

  • The web server logs the IP address and requested path of each request for security and abuse prevention. Logs of normal use are deleted after 24 hours. Addresses that abuse the site or its services are permanently banned.
  • If you prefer not to reveal your address, the static site is mirrored at our onion address on the Tor network. The interactive services — the chess API and ViF multiplayer — are not available there.

Chess

  • You can play without an account. An anonymous game is stored with its moves and deleted 24 hours after its last activity.
  • An account is optional. It stores a username, a password hash (Argon2id; the password itself is never stored), an optional email address, the time of your last login, and one sign-in session. Games played while signed in are kept with your account.
  • The email address is used for nothing today: no newsletters, no notifications, no password recovery yet.
  • Signing in stores a token in your browser’s localStorage so you stay signed in. Signing out deletes it there and revokes the session on the server.
  • You can delete your account yourself: on the board, open the account indicator and choose Delete account, then confirm with your password. It ends your session, removes your name and claim from every stored game and deletes the account at once. Games nobody else plays become anonymous and are deleted 24 hours after their last move; a game against another account stays with that player, with your side unnamed.
  • If you can no longer sign in, write to the address below from the account’s email, or with enough detail to identify it, and we will delete it for you.

ViF multiplayer

  • No account is involved. Hosting a game or joining one uses your IP address to apply per-address limits; it is not stored with the game.
  • Every hosted game writes a game log — game events, roster changes and timing, with no IP addresses or names — which is streamed publicly in the multiplayer lobby while the game runs.
  • Game logs are kept in memory on the game server only, and deleted a few hours after the game ends and on every restart.
  • The game service’s own server logs, which can name connection addresses, are not collected today. If they are, they will be kept for at most two weeks, for abuse handling only, and never published.

Lixen Rings (Android)

  • The app collects no data, requests no permissions and makes no network connections. Anything it keeps stays on the device and is removed with the app.

Everything else

  • We do not sell or share personal information with third parties, except where required by law.
  • We may add cookie-less, anonymized usage statistics in the future, kept for one to three months. This page will say so first.

Security

  • We take reasonable measures to protect data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction: TLS for every web connection, strict content security and transport headers, hashed passwords, and least-privilege services.
  • No method of transmission over the Internet is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Multiplayer game traffic on port 7777 is not encrypted; it carries game input only.

Changes to This Policy

  • We may update these terms and this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new date.
  • Review this page periodically for changes.
